2015 University of Arts Helsinki & Aalto University - Antigone Reloaded

Address By The General Manager – Vice Chancellor MCF

Τhe Michael Cacoyannis Foundation continues for a fourth year its “ANCIENT GREEK DRAMA: Influences and Contemporary approaches” Program, which is included in the Culture and Sports Ministry’s “ATTICA” Regional Operational Program of the 2007-2013 NSRF, and hosts the Theatre Academy of the Helsinki University of the Arts, as well as the School of Arts, Design and Architecture of Aalto University. The distinguished visiting academic institutions are organizing a series of workshops and a seminar by internationally acclaimed instructors, alongside the Antigone Reloaded performance, which is based on Sophocles’ Antigone.

For all of us, the members, workers and audience of the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, this project expresses our certainty regarding the power of the theatrical education and act, as well as its potential, as both a science and an art form, to move above time and place, aesthetically as well as intellectually.

Stanford University (USA), the University of Leeds (United Kingdom) and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which have honoured its previous events, have offered the “ANCIENT DRAMA: Influences and Contemporary Approaches” Program an already important legacy. As it is solidified as an educational and artistic institution of great expectations, outlining and safeguarding a meeting point for Greek and foreign academics and students of Ancient Drama remains our goal, so as to promote its cross-disciplinary and experimental analysis and presentation to the audience.
